Class of 92 beaten By Reds Of 2018

Barnsley made it a hattrick of pre-season victories with a narrow win at National League side Salford City.

The Greater Manchester outfit who are part owned by Manchester United's Class of 92 the Neville brothers, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs and currently managed by former Scunthorpe United manager Graham Alexander provided sterner opposition for Barnsley than their previous opponents Gainsborough and York but the Reds sealed the victory thanks to a stunning strike from Ryan Hedges.

The 23 year old Welshman who had a stop start campaign last year making only 27 appearances brought the ball onto his weaker right foot just inside the area and bent it past the Salford keeper after 28 minutes.
Hedges nearly made it two just before half-time when he cracked the crossbar from 20 yards out but Salford also hit the woodwork in the second half through a Liam Hogan header.

Whether Stendel's plan was to name two separate sides for the third game running was the plan or not could not be ascertained as knocks to Zeki Fryers, Adam Davies and Liam Lindsay saw them all substituted in the first half but only Victor Adeboyejo, Ethan Pinnock and Dani Pinillos returned after the break from the players that had started the game.

Pre-season top scorer Tom Bradshaw missed the game amid rumours the Welshman is set to hand in a transfer request to force through a move to Championship outfit Millwall however local media reports he was in the stadium, is just nursing a minor injury and is expected to attend the tour of Hungary.
