The Daily Mirror has claimed Preston chairman Derek Shaw wants Reds boss Simon Davey to replace the sacked Paul Simpson at Deepdale.

Simpson was sacked yesterday after a poor start to the season, and Davey who spent 10 years at Preston as player and coach is believed to be top of Shaw's list after sending Barnsley into the top ten of the Championship for the first time in seven years.

Daily Mirror:

Preston want old boy Simon Davey to come home from Barnsley in a shock managerial move - after axing Paul Simpson yesterday.

Chairman Derek Shaw is a big fan of former North End player and long-term backroom boy Davey, who has done well at Barnsley.

Wouldn't you know it hey. We spent all last season not wanting the guy then as soon as he starts doing a good job he might be off!!
