Barnsley have taken their summer signings to five before the official opening of the transfer window by securing the signature of defender Ethan Pinnock.

The 24-year-old defender helped Forest Green Rovers gain promotion to the Football League for the first time in their history, making 40 appearances in all competitions in 2016-2017.

The Reds have trailed the former Dulwich Hamlet prospect all summer, having a number of bids rejected but have finally landed their man.

Pinnock who has signed a three year deal joins Stevie Mallan (St Mirren), Jason McCarthy (Southampton), Liam Lindsay (Partick Thistle) and Ben Williams (Blackburn) in coming through the door so far this summer and this could be extended to six before the weekend is over.

Barnsley are expected to sign striker Ollie McBurnie from Swansea City. The 21-year-old striker made five substitute appearances for the Premier League outfit in 2016-2017 whilst also netting twice in their League Cup triumph at Peterborough and he bagged five goals in four Checkatrade Trophy outings for their Under 21 side.

However injuries have limited McBurnie’s opportunities and since joining Swansea in 2015 from Bradford he has had time out on loan at Bristol Rovers and Newport. The Swans are believed to be interested in Reds full back Andy Yiadom and there were reports that McBurnie could be included in any deal that took the Ghanaian international to the Liberty Stadium, however Barnsley are now expected to capture McBurnie on loan whether Yiadom is included or not.
