Eventful day at Oakwell

Last updated : 08 August 2007 By Rob Miles (barnsley Boy)

Its certainly been an eventful Wednesday at Oakwell today as first it was revealed the price of the Official Matchday Programme will rise from £2.50 to £3 for the coming season. (When The Reds had their one and only season in the Premiership the cost was just £1.80.

And while fans will most probably not back the club's stance over this matter, they will probably be more sympathetic to the second news item to come out today.

In a statement issued by the club today, it was revealed that Barnsley Football Club have failed to come to an agreement with BBC Radio Sheffield for coverage of games this season

The Club say that Radio Sheffield have offered 25% less money than last season despite the club still being in the Championship, and 3.5 times less than what has been offered to other local clubs. Even though NO club covered by Radio Sheffield is in a higher league than Barnsley.

I personally am quite pleased the club has come out fighting on this matter and have refused to be belittled by the press. We are looked on as "little old Barnsley" too much and I for one applaud Gordon Shepherd and the Board for defending the club and its pride.

Now then about them ticket and programme prices Gordon......
