Barnsley supporters are again bracing themselves for the possibility of Paul Heckingbottom leaving the club with the Reds boss now the red hot favourite to take the vacant managerial position at Nottingham Forest.

The City Ground outfit axed Mark Warburton on New Year's Eve following a home defeat to Sunderland the day before, which meant they had lost seven of the previous 11 games.

They have played one match under the caretaker stewardship of Gary Brazil, drawing 0-0 at Leeds on New Year's Day, which leaves them in 14th place in the Championship having won 10 and lost 14 of their 26 games - drawing only twice, which the lowest in the divison.

Over the weekend there has been significant movement in the market with Heckingbottom now as short as 1/3 with SkyBet - the closest challenger is Aitor Karanka at 9/2.

It remains to be seen whether Heckingbottom will be prepared to leave Oakwell now the takeover has been completed, but despite being a week into the transfer window there is still to be a new arrival announced.
