………………. Neil Austin, Paul Heckingbottom, Paul Reid, Chris Shuker, Martin Devaney, Antony Kay, Brian Howard and Daniel Nardiello will don the famous red shirt one more time alongside club legend Bobby Hassell for the final 20 minutes of his testimonial this Saturday afternoon.
As, controversially confirmed, Hassell must play with the current Reds squad for the first 70 minutes of the match against a Mansfield Town XI to mark his ten years at Oakwell but they will then be replaced by players who have played alongside that famous ginger (sometimes blonde) haired, full-back-cum-central defender-cum-midfielder-cum-substitute keeper!
The only players who will appear who did not grace the Millennium Stadium on that drizzly yet glorious May afternoon in 2006 are goalkeeper David Preece and defender Stephen Foster.
It will mark an emotional return to Oakwell for Shuker in particular. The diminutive crafty winger who netted 10 times in that promotion season was the only member of this weekend’s line-up who did not play Championship football with Hassell, leaving that summer following a contract dispute with the club’s board.
The match, with a 3pm kick-off is a celebration of Bobby Hassell’s decade at Oakwell in which he scored nine times in 299 appearances between 2004 and 2014.
