Souza started out in his homeland with Matsubara before moving to the Netherlands to play for Roda JC. He moved to neighbouring country Belgium after this and enjoyed loan spells with Harelbeke, Mons and Heusden-Zolder before signing for Standard Leige in 2004. He then joined Mons again on loan and then made the switch to Charleroi, where he played sixteen games and scored two goals.
Reds boss Simon Davey was happy with the capture and told the official site: "After watching Dennis in Belgium, we invited him over for pre-season and he has impressed in his short time with us. We are delighted that we have been able to complete the deal and look forward to working with him for the next two seasons".
Dennis joins Kayode Odejayi, Miguel Mostto, Rob Kozluk, Dominik Werling, Andy Johnson, Marciano Bruma, Lewin Nyatanga and Rohan Ricketts on the incoming list this summer.
