Barnsley boss boss Paul Hart's comments to the official Barnsley FC website:

"It was a tough game and Bristol City are a good side. I felt that in the first half we were a little naïve at times but we sorted that out at the break and I felt we probably deserved it.
"Stephen McPhail, by his own admission, will get better as the season goes on but I think that it is fair to say we will as a team. There were a lot of good signs and things that we can work on.

"I think you have seen a group of players out there who have worked their socks off to get the right result tonight.

"Matt Carbon came off with a calf strain which is a bit disappointing because he had been brilliant throughout. But we have brought in players who can work in different positions and we saw that with Bobby Hassell slotting in and doing well in midfield.

"You are always edgy at the end when you let a goal in but I felt that we could have cut it out at the source and stopped it.

"Our start could have been better but we have to be satisfied although we will improve".

Bristol City boss Brian Tinnion also spoke after the game:

"We should have defended both goals better. I should have done better with the first goal and Tommy Doherty says he could have done better with their second. The two goals were disappointing and down to sloppy errors.
"We had some good spells and created some good chances but we never really looked clinical in front of goal again. We had a few good chances, Paul Heffernan hit the post and headed one wide in the first half, but if you don't take your chances when they come along you will find yourselves under pressure.
"Leroy Lita's goal was a good one but it was a bit too late by then. We had Joe Anyinsah and Lee Miller on there, trying to get a few knock downs from balls going towards the box. Lee did well to head the ball on and Leroy has finished well."
