Last updated : 21 June 2018 By Rob Miles

Barnsley will start their 24th season in the third tier with a home game against Oxford United - the first time the Reds will have kicked off a campaign at Oakwell since 2014.

Barnsley who will be looking to win their opening league game for the first time since 2012 and only the second time in 13 years face off against a side who their last encounter with was a truly memorable occasion. Back in April 2016, Barnsley defeated Oxford 3-2 at Wembley to win the Johnstones Paint Trophy, but this will be the first league meeting between the two sides for 19 years- it will be exactly 20 years to the month since the last Oakwell clash.

Barnsley face local rivals Bradford and Scunthorpe in August (both away) whilst also travelling to Spotland to face Keith Hill's Rochdale and hosting AFC Wimbledon for the first time ever!

There will be some intriguing games for Reds fans this season as whilst the Dons are the only team they have never met there are two sides -Accrington (1959) and Bristol Rovers (1999) who they have not faced this century.

They will make their first ever league visit to the Memorial Ground on the final day of the season when they face Bristol Rovers, the fourth successive season Barnsley close out a campaign on the road.

Other key dates see them face Peterborough at Oakwell on Boxing Day, Shrewsbury at home on Good Friday and Plymouth away on Easter Monday whilst they finish their Oakwell campaign against Blackpool.
