Barnsley 0-2 Leeds United

Last updated : 17 September 2019 By Rob Miles

Despite a valiant effort, Barnsley were done by two late set-piece goals to stretch their winless run in all competitions to seven (D2 L5), their worst run since January/February 2018 (also 7 - D2 L5)

After going 29 league matches unbeaten at Oakwell under Daniel Stendel, Barnsley have now lost back to back home league matches for the first time since November/December 2017 - one of those defeats was also 0-2 v Leeds.

Barnsley have now lost back to back home games against Leeds for the first time EVER and both by a 2-0 scoreline. Prior to these two reverses Barnsley had won five of the past six Oakwell clashes.

Leeds have though now won five of the last six league matches overall, including each of the last three.

Barnsley have now won only four of their last 25 Yorkshire derbies in the Championship (W4 D9 L12)

Leeds have won six consecutive away matches in all competitions for only the third time in their history - they also did so between September and November 1931 and October and November 1963.

Toby Sibbick received the only yellow card of the game, meaning that a defender has been booked in every Barnsley match this season except the defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.

Just one booking is the lowest in a Barnsley/Leeds clash for four meetings.

A Barnsley/Leeds clash was goal-less at half time for the first time in six meetings since it finished 0-0 in December 2013.

Barnsley have now conceded three times from the penalty spot (all comps) from eight games.

Barnsley have lost four of their first seven league games, just as they did in 2017-2018 when they were relegated from the Championship.

They have won only one of their first eight in all competitions for the first time since 2013-2014 when they won only one of the first 13.

The Reds have failed to score in five of their first eight matches, whilst their total of four league goals is the lowest in the Championship so far.

Barnsley failed to score in a home league game for the first time since March (0-0 with Sunderland) they had scored in seven successive home league games since.

Barnsley conceded twice in the last 10 minutes of a game at Oakwell for the first time since April 2017 (v Bolton)

Barnsley have lost each of their last three matches on a Sunday, last triumphing in the League One Play-Off Final in May 2016.

This was the fourth successive meeting with Leeds in which they have had a different manager at the helm (September 2019 Marcelo Bielsa, April 2018 Paul Heckingbottom, November 2017 Thomas Christiansen, January 2017 Garry Monk)

Barnsley have gone back to back league games without scoring for the first time since March.

The Reds have now won just four of their past 27 games at Championship level (D8 L15)

Barnsley have conceded at least two goals in five of seven Championship matches this season.

This is the first time Barnsley have won their first league game of the season but then failed to win any of the next six since 1971-1972 when after opening a Division Three campaign with a 4-2 win over Walsall they failed to win any of their next 13 league matches - they were relegated at the end of that campaign.

Leeds has 67% ball possession, the most by an opponent at Oakwell since Middlesbrough also had 67% in October 2017.

There was a total of 38 shots in the game, the most in a Barnsley match since August 2018 v Nottingham Forest (also 38)

"He is a striker who can score goals. For me, he is a complete player."
