Barnsley
have now won 11 and lost 11 of their 30 leagues having won only two of their
last eight matches and three of thirteen.
It
is the fourth Barnsley league match to finish 2-1 this season but the first the
Reds have been on the wrong side of.
They
had looked on course for back to back league wins for the first time since
November when David McGoldrick netted his seventh goal in eight appearances
(after drawing a blank in all of the previous 11) just before half-time however
the Reds lost a game they led 1-0 for the second time this season, both of
which they also led at half time (2-1 v Mansfield before a 3-2 defeat being the
other)
Of
the nine different games McGoldrick has scored in, eight of those have been
Barnsley’s first goal in the game.
It
was though only the second time he has scored for the Reds away from home, also
doing so at Reading last month.
Huddersfield’s
second half comeback were the 51st and 52nd league goals
Barnsley have conceded this season, now only Leyton Orient (53) have conceded
more goals than the Reds in League One this season with these two sides meeting
next weekend.
It
is the most goals Barnsley have conceded after 30 games of a season since
2019-2020 when they had let in 56 in the Championship.
Conversely
McGoldrick’s effort was the 50th league goal Barnsley have scored
this season and the 50th goal scored in the first half of a Barnsley
league game this season.
There
has now been a total of 102 goals scored in Barnsley league games this season,
more than in any other League One team’s matches.
Since
returning from a loan at Stockport Corey O’Keeffe has appeared 10 times for
Barnsley and now being booked in four of them with his yellow against
Huddersfield after 90+5 Barnsley’s eighth booking in second half stoppage time.
This
was only the fifth time in the league this season in which Barnsley held a 1-0
half time lead.
It is the first time Barnsley have led 1-0 at half time and lost
2-1 in the league since the 15th February 2025 (so 12 months ago) –
the opponents that day…. Huddersfield.
This
result continues the wretched run of only keeping two league clean sheets in
2025-2026 so far, it is the first time they have kept so few shut-outs after 30
games at any level since the 1952-1953 second tier season when they kept only
ONE all season - a season in which they conceded 108 goals in 42 games, 20 more
than any other side in the division that season. It is their longest ever run
in a third tier season without a third clean sheet.
Barnsley have now lost six of their last seven meetings with
Huddersfield in all competitions, with the 3-1 home win back in August their
only victory in the last eight.
Barnsley have conceded exactly two goals in five of the last six
meetings with three of those games finishing in a 2-1 defeat.
Seven of the last 14 matches (50%) have finished 2-1 with
Huddersfield winning five of them.
The Reds have lost each of their last five trips to this part of
West Yorkshire and eight of the last nine (W1)
They have conceded exactly two goals in each of the last four
trips - four of the last eight visits have seen the Terriers win 2-1.
Barnsley have failed to net more than once in any of their last
nine trips last doing so in the famous 2-2 draw on the final day of 2012-2013
which saw the Reds dramatically escape Championship relegation in the final
seconds.
There were 17 corners in the game, the most in 25 Barnsley matches
