Stockport County 3-1 Barnsley

Last Updated : 12-Oct-2026 by Robert Miles

Barnsley edged closer to a League One relegation scrap after conceding at least three times for the sixth time in seven matches in all competitions which leaves them out of the bottom four only on goal difference.

A total of 23 goals has been conceded in those seven matches and resulted in five defeats.

Barnsley have gone seven games without victory in any competition for the first time since another run of seven between the 4th March 2025 and 5th April 2025 (D2 L5)

They have lost three successive matches for the first time in 2026, last occurring in the final three games of 2025.

They have lost 50% of their league games now - the first time they have lost as many as four of the first eight since the 2019-2020 Championship season when they lost five. It is the first time at this level for 47 years (1979-1980) when they had won four and lost four.

They have conceded 15 goals in these first eight games - only three teams (Wycombe/Bromley 20 and Burton 16) have conceded more League One goals this season.

Barnsley have conceded three plus goals in  three successive games (all comps) for the second time this season - prior to this season it hadn't even happened once for nine years.

This was only the second time Barnsley have a led a league game this season at half time (also at Leyton Orient) and the first time they have lost a league game they have led at the break since February at Huddersfield (They have led at half time in six league games since and had gone on to win four)

The reverse to the Terriers was 2-1 so this was Barnsley's heaviest defeat when leading at half time since September 2021 against Nottingham Forest (also 3-1)

There has been 16 second half goals in Barnsley's eight league games, compared to only seven in the first half whereas in all competitions the last first half goal Barnsley conceded was to Leeds United Under 21s Josh McDonald, they have conceded eight second half goals since.

The Reds have kept only one clean sheet this season (from 13 matches in all competitions) and have kept only two in the last 18 stretching back to April.

They have staggeringly kept only three clean sheets in their past 41 League One games.

This was Stockport’s 32nd win against Barnsley equalling the amount they have lost against the Reds (there has also been 34 draws.)

Three of those victories have come in the past four meetings (D1) whilst Barnsley have failed to win any of the last seven meetings (D4 L3) with their last victory way back in 2004.

Stockport have won the last two meetings 3-1.

Barnsley have scored only one goal in each of the last five meetings.

Barnsley have lost two of their last three visits to Edgeley Park – as many as they had lost in the previous nine trips.

Despite scoring only once Barnsley had nine shots on target, their most in an away league game in eight away matches since also having having nine at Rotherham April.

There has been exactly 17 corners awarded in three of Barnsley’s last four matches.

There were only 17 fouls, only against Blackpool (16) has there been fewer in a Barnsley league game this season.
