Celtic Not A Stalybridge Too Far

Barnsley kicked off their pre-season campaign with an unconvincing yet solid 1-0 win at Stalybridge Celtic.

A 61st minute own goal from National League (formerly Conference) North side’s Aaron Chalmers settled the contest when he turned in a Josh Scowen cross.

Head Coach Lee Johnson gave new signings Alfie Mawson, Marc Roberts, Conor Wilkinson and Marley Watkins starts whilst trialists Omar Rowe and Iain Vigurs also featured.

Goalkeeper Adam Davies plus last season's star man Conor Houirhane did not feature with Johnson confirming the Irish midfielder is likely to miss the next month after picking up a medial knee ligament injury, thus making the 24 year old a major doubt for the season opener at Coventry.
