Young Devils Beat Barnsley

A young Manchester United side secured a 2-1 victory over Barnsley at Oakwell last night as The Reds lost a third out of four pre-season games.

Only ONE of the 21 players who travelled from Old Trafford have played a competitive first game for the 20 time English champions, Tom Lawrence who started United’s final Premier League game of last season.

They did however include a couple of players with first team exposure at other clubs, namely Tom Thorpe (Birmingham loan), and Davide Petrucci (Peterborough and Charlton loan)

Despite their inexperience this latest batch of United talent still just had a bit too much for a strong Barnsley side which included five players likely to start the first League One game of the season against Crawley in nine days- Martin Cranie, Lewin Nyatanga, James Bailey, Conor Hourihane and Sam Winnall. Manager Danny Wilson also threw a surprise by giving Marcus Haber a trial match. The 25-year-old Canadian was released by Stevenage this summer.

Josh Harrop netted first half goals for United before Jean-Yves Mvoto headed a consolation two minutes from time.
