Michael Coulson again put in a starring performance as The young Reds earned a shock win over high-flying Newcastle United.

Coulson bagged a brace and also set up Jacob White and young Michael must now be banging on Simon Davey's door for a first team slot after being increasingly impressive since signing from Scarborough last summer.

Coulson opened the scoring with an outstanding strike after 20 minutes as he produced a stupendous lob from outside the box that looped over Magpies goal-keeper Fraser Forster.

Newcastle though equalised against the run of play on 42 minutes when Jonny Godsmark broke through to fire past James Waggett.

Coulson was not to be denied however and within 6 minutes of the second half he put The Reds back in front.

Coulson was the quickest to react when Forster spilled Jacob Butterfield's free-kick to stab home.

Coulson then put the ball on a plate for Jacob White just 4 minutes later to put Barnsley 3-1 up.

Newcastle did pull back a late goal through Glenn Reay but the day belonged to Barnsley and Michael Coulson
