Striker Marc Richards pushed his claim for a first team place by grabbing a hat-trick as The Reds second string hammered Bradford 5-1 at Valley Parade.

The only surprise in the game is that the scoring didn't start until the 54th minute when Richards strike partner Paul Hayes opened the scoring, rifling a close range effort past Russell Howarth.

It was two on 61minutes as Hayes produced a great finish to leave Richards with a simple tap-in.

Two became three just 3 minutes later with Hayes again involved. He sent a fine pass through the Bradford defence which Michael Coulson raced onto and thumped home.

Bradford got themselves back into the game on 76minutes when Ben Muirhead smashed a great free-kick past Kyle Letheren but Barnsley got the fourth on 82minutes as he crept past the Bantams defence and he grabbed his hat-trick with 2 minute remaining, heading home at the far post.
