Barnsley’s Under 18 Academy side continued their excellent start to the Premier Academy league with a 3-1 win over Blackburn this morning to make it four wins from four.
The future stars had already dispensed of Arsenal, Fulham and Crewe this season and despite falling behind, The Reds saw off a Rovers side with just one victory to their name so far this campaign.
Rovers took the lead with the first real chance of the game when Danny Laverty drove an effort underneath Barnsley keeper Lukas Lidakevicius. Rovers held this advantage until half time but just two minutes after the re-start the Reds were level when Jordan Clark converted a penalty awarded after Danny Rose was chopped down in the area.
From then on Barnsley turned the screw and Brad Abbott put The Reds in front shortly after Blackburn were reduced to ten men and then substitute Jordan McLeod sealed the points with ten minutes remaining.
Barnsley will be looking for a perfect five when they travel to Liverpool next weekend who had won just one match so far before today’s trip to Leeds United.
The Reds: Lidakevicius, Steade, Alderson, Kilburn, Stones, Patterson, Abbott, Turner, Digby, Clark, Rose.
Subs: Martin, McLeod, Oates, Moyo, Scott.
