Barnsley’s Under 18 side put in a magnificent performance at Middlesbrough this afternoon to secure a 3-0 success and thus end their hosts six match winning home run.

Danny Rose, Rhys Oates and Matty Steade were the Reds match winners in a game which was being played three months late after it was originally postponed due to heavy frost in mid January.

Middlesbrough had previously seen off Huddersfield, West Brom, Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United and Newcastle in their previous six home games (although they have lost five in a row away from home since a 2-0 win at Oakwell in November.)

The Reds assistant Academy manager Mark Burton told the club’s official website:

"What a performance - one-touch passing and moving. Top-drawer football. With three really good football-goals created by sharp passing.

"It was pretty even in the first half, but we got an 85% success rate in passing - absolutely awesome. We played well under pressure today. Middlesbrough are a good side who have won the last six at home."

Barnsley currently lie fourth in the FA Premier Academy League Group D with 37 points from 24 matches, seven points and two places above Middlesbrough.
