Barnsley F.C Season Review 2009-2010

Last updated : 08 May 2010 By Rob Miles (BarnsleyBoy)

The opening month of the 2009-2010 season was an absolute nightmare for The Reds and led to the dismissal of manager Simon Davey after just under three years in charge.

Barnsley opened the campaign with a 2-2 draw at Sheffield Wednesday (after being 2-0 down at half time) and defeated Lincoln 1-0 to progress to the second round of the Carling Cup. But then the implosion began. Apart from a 2-1 win at Reading in the Carling Cup, The Reds lost four successive games in the league- at home to Coventry (0-2), at home to Preston (0-3), at Leicester (0-1) and, just four days after their success at the Madejski, 3-1 at home to Reading.

It left Barnsley propping up the embryonic Championship table and Davey out of work.
