Barnsley F.C Season Review 2009-2010

Last updated : 08 May 2010 By Rob Miles (BarnsleyBoy)

Mark Robins arrived from Rotherham to try and rescue the club’s fortunes but became the first manager since Nigel Spackman in 2001 to lose his first game in charge, as The Reds went down 1-0 at Watford. They would though gain their first league win three days later when they triumphed 3-2 at Derby on the 15th September.

They followed this up with their first home point, in a 0-0 draw with Swansea and then claimed the scalp of Premier League Burnley in the Carling Cup, clinching a thrilling tie 3-2 and thus putting them into the fourth round of the competition for the first time in 10 years.

A dose of reality was added when the Reds were thumped 5-2 at QPR but they ended the month with arguably their best performance of the season- defeating high flying West Brom 3-1 at Oakwell.
