Barnsley F.C Season Review 2009-2010

After a shocking start to the New Year The Reds fortunes picked up in February, with some notable victories, but also some disappointing defeats.

They started the month in stunning form thumping Preston 4-1 at Deepdale, and they followed it up with a 1-0 home win over Watford that took the club to the heady heights of ninth in the league, three points off the play-offs.

Any wild dreams of a promotion push quickly evaporated however as, typically, The Reds lost their next three matches- 2-1 at Middlesbrough, 3-1 at home to Plymouth and 2-1 at Scunthorpe which dropped them back into the bottom half.

The up and down nature would continue as a Daniel Bogdanovic inspired Barnsley pulled of a shock in their next match by winning 2-0 at Cardiff! It was their first win in the Welsh capital in 27 years and meant they completed a league double over the Bluebirds for the first time in just over half a century. And just like at the end of 2009 when The Reds followed up a victory over Cardiff with one over Blackpool, so they did again in February as a solitary strike from Iain Hume gave Barnsley their second double of the season and moved them into 11th position.
