After a wretched August, September was even worse as The Reds went through the whole month without a victory or a goal and they ended the month second from bottom of the Championship.

Saturday 13th September 2008

Match Five:
Blackpool 1-0 Barnsley

A poor game in scorching hot sunshine by the seaside went
Blackpool's way thanks to a cracking half volley from Steve Kabba four minutes from time. Hugo Colace made his long awaited debut after his clearance came through from Argentina.

Match Six:
Barnsley 0-1 Cardiff City

11,000 people saw one of the worst
Barnsley home performances in recent memory as they failed to threaten the Cardiff goal ONCE in the entire 90 minutes. The game was settled by Peter Whittingham after 14 minutes, but then the Bluebirds seemed content to sit back and Barnsley woefully couldn't muster a threat.

Match Seven:
Southampton 0-0 Barnsley

The Reds picked up their first point on the road in this stalemate with fellow strugglers Southampton but they slumped to the bottom of the league. One point should have been three as Iain Hume rounded Kelvin Davis in the 84th minute but put his effort into the side netting with the goal gaping.

Match Eight:
Barnsley 0-0 Norwich City

Another stalemate compounded by a missed penalty from striker Jon Macken. This was also the first game that Brian Howard missed before his move to Sheffield United was confirmed. Macken should have sealed the points for The Reds in the 13th minute but hit a tame penalty at Canaries stopper David Marshall.

Match Nine:
Ipswich Town 3-0 Barnsley

A wretched month ended with a humbling at
Portman Road. Two glaring errors from goalkeeper Heinz Muller helped the Tractor Boys to victory. A poor clearance allowed Jon Stead to net and then he allowed a speculative shot from Ivan Campo to squirm through his hands. Owen Garvan netted in-between.
