James To Skip To Robins Beatt

Last updated : 22 May 2010 By Rob Miles (BarnsleyBoy)

Barnsley boss Mark Robins could be set for an ambitious loan move for Stoke City striker James Beattie! The former Sheffield United man has fallen out of favour at the Britannia Stadium after a bust up with manager Tony Pulis and the Potters want him out either on loan or permanently.

This, according to the Daily Mirror, could pave the way for Barnsley to make their move. Beattie was settled in South Yorkshire after making a £4m move to Bramall Lane in 2007, but after a blistering time at the Blades where he netted 34 times in 60 starts, the lure of the Premier League proved too much and he moved to Stoke for £6m in January 2009. He has scored 10 times in 29 starts for Stoke but hasn’t started a league game since December.

32 year old Beattie has a pretty decent record against Barnsley after netting both times at Oakwell in that infamous Hume/Morgan game in 2008.

Daily Mirror reports:

Ambitious Barnsley boss Mark Robins is trying to sign James Beattie on loan from Stoke City to end the striker’s on-going feud with Tony Pulis.

Robins has been given the finance to take the forward of the season and hopes to get permission to speak to him about the move shortly.

Beattie was a big hit in the Championship with Sheffield United before going back to the top flight with the Potters and Robins thinks he could spark a promotion push.

Barnsley have money for a ‘star’ signing and are relying on Stoke boss Pulis being unable to find a buyer for Beattie.
