Barnsley FC Player Season Reports: 2008-2009

Last updated : 19 May 2009 By Rob Miles (barnsley Boy)

Dennis Souza:

League Appearances: 33(1)

League Goals: 4

FA Cup 1

League Cup: 1

Although Souza has played the vast majority of games this season it became clear towards the end that he was no longer first choice. He fell out with manager Simon Davey when he refused to be a substitute in the 3-1 victory over
Crystal Palace, and sadly he will be released this summer. Many Reds fans will look back fondly on an excellent 2007-2008 though. D

Luke Steele:

League Appearances: 10

League Goals: 0

FA Cup: 0

League Cup: 1

Harshly dropped eight games into the season for the fit again Heinz Muller and Davey's persistence in sticking with the erratic German meant that it took until April for the man who denied
Liverpool to get his chance again. He didn't disappoint making excellent saves against Reading, Wolves and Plymouth to help The Reds stay up. It was rumoured he would leave in the summer but his great end of season form has seen him offered a new one year contract. C

Gary Teale:

League Appearances: 2(1)

League Goals: 0

FA Cup 0

League Cup: 0

A very poor loan signing who featured in three defeats. He failed to make any impact before returning to Derby and helping them beat Manchester United in the Carling Cup! G

Andranik Teymourian:

League Appearances: 10(1)

League Goals: 0

FA Cup 0

League Cup: 0

An accomplished midfielder who was probably used less than he should have been. He looked a class player but failed to permanently dislodge Hugo Colace and Anderson De Silva. Even so The Reds lost just three of the games he started and in one of them he was sent off. C

Simon Whaley:

League Appearances: 4

League Goals: 1

FA Cup 0

League Cup: 0

Like Teale, came on loan but didn't impress. Even his goal should not have stood! G
