August:

And to put it bluntly August was a terrible month as Barnsley made their worst start to a season for 22 years. The season started with four straight defeats- in the league to QPR (2-1 after Hume had given The Reds an early lead) 2-1 to Coventry, and 2-0 at Birmingham, with an humiliating 2-0 League Cup defeat at League One strugglers Crewe thrown in- indeed Crewe currently sit bottom of League One having won just nine of 30 games in all competitions.

The only brief respite was sentencing Derby to a 36th league game without victory as late strikes from Hume and Foster grabbed a first win of the season.
