A Look At The Weekend Action

Last updated : 09 February 2013 By Rob Miles (BarnsleyBoy)

….Barnsley have now lost incredibly won six of their last seven games under David Flitcroft and are unbeaten in those seven. It is their longest unbeaten run since September 2011 when they also went seven without defeat but they drew five of those.

The Reds have won four in a row. The first time they have done this since December 2011.

Under Flitcroft The Reds have  now conceded a first half goal just- in his first match, the 2-1 defeat at Peterborough.

Jason Scotland now has three goals in three substitute appearances for the club- a total of 75 minutes.

Jim O’Brien grabbed his first goal in exactly a year in last weekend’s victory at Blackpool. He now has two in two!

Whilst last weekend’s victory was a continuous of Barnsley’s good record at Blackpool, today’s result smashed a long hoodoo. It gave The Reds their first victory at Middlesbrough in 21 years and their first ever at the Riverside Stadium. It was also only the second time EVER that they managed to score more than once in a game at Middlesbrough and the first ever that they have netted three.

This was Barnsley’s fifth away victory of the season. It is first time they have won more than four on the road since the 2009-2010 season.

It is also the first time they have come from behind to win a game since April 2011 when they fell 1-0 down at home to Bristol City but came back to win 4-2.

11 days ago Barnsley were seven points off safety. Three wins later and only goal difference keeps them in the relegation zone.

It piled more pressure on Middlesbrough. They have now lost five league games in a row for the first time in 13 years and remain the only side in the Championship still to register a single point in 2013.
