Barnsley have been handed a tasty Yorkshire derby with York City as they return to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy for the first time in nine years.

York, who reached the League Two Play-Offs last season despite being second from bottom of the league at the end of 2013 will travel to Oakwell in the First Round in the week commencing the 1st September in what will be the first meeting between the two sides for 11 years and only the second in 36.

Barnsley have an awful record in this competition and are yet to win a match in the four years they have competed in it whilst scoring in just one of the five matches they have played, during a 5-2 defeat to Doncaster in 2005.

York’s record is equally as poor, the Minstermen have competed in nine editions of the competition and have won just ONE match, 1-0 at Rotherham in 2012.
