Rowing denies Hill is in line for vacant Elland Road job.
Barnsley director Don Rowing has laughed off rumours Keith Hill is being lined up to be the new manager of Leeds United.
Leeds fired Simon Grayson on the 1st February after three years at the helm and former Barnsley captain Neil Redfearn is currently in temporary charge. It is doubtful “Redders” will get the job full time however due to his previous modest international experience at Halifax, Scarborough and York, and his cause was not helped by yesterday’s last gasp home defeat to Brighton which left the Whites 10th in the Championship.
This has led to Hill’s name being linked with the job and at the start of the weekend he was as short as 6/1 with some bookmakers to take over with Leeds chairman Ken Bates impressed with how Hill has managed on a shoestring budget at Barnsley, including guiding The Reds to a first league double over Leeds since 1989-90 this season by winning 2-1 at Elland Road and then thumping them 4-1 at Oakwell.
Hill also refused to rule himself out of the running when he told a media conference:
“I would never rule anything out. It’s brilliant with respect to myself, I suppose it proves that people are actually taking note of the job we (are doing at Barnsley.”
“I’m interested in Barnsley Football Club. I’m interested in my family and looking after David Flitcroft. That’s it. I’m interested in football, put it that way.”
Rowing though told the Sheffield Star:
“I think what Keith said was tongue-in-cheek, he was being a little bit mischievous.
“He’s got a fun sense of humour and I think he was having a little joke.
“It’s great for Keith that he’s getting linked to these jobs because it proves just how good a job he’s doing. He’s assured me of his position and we’ll continue supporting him here in taking the club forward.”
“We’ve had no contact with Leeds or any other club, Keith Hill is the Barnsley manager,”
