Last updated : 08 April 2004 By Mad Tyke

Former Reds midfielder Matty Appleby is making progress on his latest comeback from long-term injury.

Appleby has been plagued by hip problems since leaving Barnsley for Oldham Athletic and has failed with two previous attempted comebacks.

The midfielder has played only three senior games in the last 19 months and it is thought by some his career is over.

Matty however, hopes be ready for the start of next season when he only has one year left on his present contract.
