Around The Grounds: Part One

Paul Simpson has become the fifth Championship manager to lose his job today after Preston North End sacked him for the club's poor start to the season.

Preston have slumped to 21st in the league despite hopes of promotion after winning just three of their opening sixteen games.

The Reds defeated Preston 1-0 at Oakwell on 3rd November, a game made memorable for Heinz Muller's 93rd minute penalty save.

The final straw however was the 3-0 hammering at Hull City at the weekend.

Paul Simpson rose to prominence after leading Carlisle United from the Conference to League One in successive seasons before replacing Billy Davies at Deepdale.

He led the club to 7th last season, one point outside the playoffs after a terrible run in- losing 8 of their last 10 games, saw them plummet from 4th.

Simpson joins John Gregory (QPR), Gary Megson (Leicester), Peter Grant (Norwich), Steve Cotterill (Burnley) in leaving a Championship club since the season started!
