Young defender Robert Atkinson has been recalled from his loan spell at Halifax Town as The Reds face a crisis in defence ahead of the tough Christmas schedule.

Skipper Paul Reid was forced off at half-time in the 2-0 defeat at Leicester in midweek with suspected ankle ligament damage which could rule him out until the New Year.

Antony Kay also hasn't played for 3 weeks after groin trouble and illness and Bobby Hassell has also been struggling for fitness over the past week.

With big games coming up against QPR, Burnley and "The Big One" against Sheffield Wednesday Atkinson could be about to a play a big role for The Reds.

Meanwhile Ronnie Wallwork has thanked Barnsley Football Club for their support as he recovers from the horrific stabbing he suffered in Manchester on 30th November.

Wallwork told The Sun:

"The West Brom fans and players have been terrific, while the physio Nick Worth has phoned me every day.

"But it's the people at Barnsley who have been even more amazing when you consider I had only been there for a couple of games on loan. Simon Davey, the caretaker manager, has been in constant touch and made it clear that nothing is too much trouble for him to help me. And the reaction of their supporters has been exceptional. I've had loads and loads of cards and letters.
