Interesting Stats:

Barnsley have lost just nine of 45 Oakwell meetings and two of the last eight.

Reds centre back Lewin Nyatanga scored for Bristol City the last time the two sides met.

There has been five penalties awarded in the last eight meetings.

Barnsley need three more goals to reach 100 at home against Bristol City.

Barnsley and Bristol City meet at Oakwell on the 25th October, as they did six years ago

This game usually guarantees goals; there has been 39 in the last nine clashes.

There has been just one goal-less draw in the last 14 meetings.

Barnsley are set to take on THE team of the season so far.

Bristol City are the only side in the Football League still undefeated and their nine wins and five draws from the opening 14 games sees them six points clear at the top of League One and seven clear of the chasing play-off pack.

Tuesday night’s 2-2 draw with Bradford helped Steve Cotterill’s side set a new club record for unbeaten games at the start of a campaign, beating their previous record 13 set in 1954-1955, a season in which they went on to win the Third Division South title.

Going back to last season however the South West oufit are unbeaten in 20 league matches stretching back to March.

Incidentally the last time City enjoyed a decent unbeaten start to a season- the first eight games of the 2007-2008 season, it was ended by a 3-0 defeat at Oakwell. That reverse inspired by goals from Brian Howard, Dennis Souza and Martin Devaney was Bristol’s only defeat in their opening 14 games of that Championship season.

City have won four times on their travels this season, the joint best record in the division.

They have netted 15 times away from Ashton Gate, the most away goals scored in the entire Football League.

Their 30 goals scored overall in their first 14 games is the best in the Football League, as is their goal difference of +15.

Bristol City have won nine league games so far this season, along with League Two’s Burton Albion, the best record in the Football League.

On This Day:

Barnsley:

Played: 17 Won: 3 Drawn: 7 Lost: 7 Scored: 17 Conceded: 31.

Last match on the 25th October: 2008. Barnsley 0-0 Bristol City. Att: 11,551.

Last win: 2005

Last draw: 2008

Last defeat: 1997

STAT! – Barnsley have a pretty poor record on this date having won just three 17 matches. They have though lost just one of the last five.

Bristol City:

Played: 16 Won: 3 Drawn: 10 Lost: 3 Scored:  Conceded: 17.

Last match on the 25th October: 2008. Barnsley 0-0 Bristol City. Att: 11,551

Last win: 1958

Last draw: 2008

Last defeat: 1975

STAT! –  Incredibly Bristol City have drawn their last six matches on this date.

JOINT STAT! – Barnsley and Bristol City have met once before on this date and it was the last time they played on the 25th October.

Six years ago in 2008 they drew 0-0 at Oakwell, a result for The Reds, which came in the middle of a run of three wins and a draw in four matches. This stalemate hot on the heels of a 2-1 derby victory over Sheffield Wednesday saw them move out of the Championship relegation zone. They would finish in 20th place after a final day victory at Plymouth saved them from relegation.

The point gained for Bristol City continued their impressive start to that 2008-2009 campaign, in which they had lost just four of their first 15 games in all competitions. This draw left them just inside the play-off places in sixth. They would finish 10th however as they failed to win any of their final eight matches of the season.
