Crewe manager Steve Davis said:

The real negative was conceding three goals again. I thought we deserved to be 2-1 ahead at half-time and that should have been the platform to go on and control the game and the possession more but it didn’t happen.

“We haven’t been able to produce that complete 90 minute performance. We haven’t been able to show that determination, organisation, concentration and quality for the whole game. It is difficult to do that regardless of who you are, but that is what we try and do.

“We lost control of the game and when that happens, they panicked a bit, made poor decisions and ended up conceded those two goals.”

Interesting Stats:

Barnsley have won nearly half of their meetings with Crewe (25 of 53) and they have triumphed in well over half of the Oakwell clashes (16 of 26)

The Reds have won three of the last four meetings at home with The Railwaymen in the league but overall Crewe have emerged victorious from South Yorkshire in two of the last three clashes.

Crewe are managed by Steve Davis who is the current sixth longest serving manager in the Football League (behind Paul Tisdale-Exeter, Karl Robinson-MK Dons, Dean Smith-Walsall, Jim Bentley-Morecambe and Phil Parkinson-Bradford) after joining Crewe back in November 2011. The 50-year-old spent seven years as a player at Barnsley between 1991 and 1998, making 107 appearances at centre half. He featured 28 times in the Premier League promotion season of 1996-1997 before a broken leg cruelly ended his campaign and Barnsley career in January 1997.

This will be only the sixth Oakwell home meeting this century.

Both of Barnsley last two defeats to Crewe overall have come in the League Cup.

The Crewe goalkeeper has scored an own goal in two of the last three league clashes (Paul Rachubka 2015, Clayton Ince 2003)

Barnsley have scored only one first half goal in the last eight meetings and that was Ince’s own goal.

Only three of Barnsley’s last 19 goals against Crewe have been scored before half time.

This fixture last season was the start of Barnsley’s six game winning run that saw them rise from 19th to sixth.

Crewe have scored more than once in only one of their past eight matches, and that was in the Johnstones Paint Trophy
