Crewe manager Lee Bell said:

“It was an unbelievable effort from the lads, every one of them. We knew it would have to be.

“We told them in the week they’d have to spend long periods without the football that it was more of a mental test than a physical one, and I thought the boys were excellent.

“The players are at their peak and the stats back it up. I’ll have nobody doubting the players’ work ethic, they were top drawer. If they want to stay in the team, they have to churn out more performances like that.

“They are all buying into what we are doing and it was pleasing to see the things we have worked on in the week, when we had the ball, I could see it on the pitch.

“I’m pleased for the fans, they looked like they enjoyed it, and it’s a really good three points against a good team.”
