Barnsley v Rochdale

Team News

Lee Johnson could ring the changes and may drop players who do not figure in his plans for next season. Both Martin Cranie and Lewin Nyatanga will be sweating on their places.

More pressing is the lack of a fully fit striker at the club. Both Sam Winnall and Jabo Ibehre have knocks which could see 20 year old Rhys Oates handed his first ever start for the club.

Interesting Stats:

Barnsley host Rochdale in a league encounter for the first time 36 years.

The last time the two sides met at Oakwell in any competition was the first round of the League Cup back in 2010-2011.

Since that tie, which Rochdale won 1-0, three of the players in the visiting side that night (Scott Wiseman, Chris O’Grady and Matty Done) have all played for and left Barnsley, whilst the man in the opposition dugout that night five years ago, Keith Hill has been hired and fired by the Reds, returned to Spotland and got them promoted.

Overall Barnsley have much the stronger record, winning 22 meetings to Rochdale’s 10.

Rochdale have won only twice at Oakwell in 16 attempts but they both have come within their last three visits.

They have scored 18 goals in 18 visits, exactly one per game.

In the last nine meetings that have produced a winner only two have produced goals for both teams.

"That game summed our season up. We made too many individual mistakes.

"We were setting our plan out to not make mistakes - we have done twice for two goals and that really hurts me"

"Where we're at at this moment in time is healthy but we've got to try and plan the future.

"I'm really disappointed tonight stood here as a manager. The third goal was a gift. It's an absolute joke defensively."
