Team News

Aaron Davies has an outside chance of playing after making a fantastic recovery from his thigh tear.

James Bree is back in training but is not ready to return to the squad.

Mason Holgate is fit again following his hamstring injury and could replace the error prone Jean-Yves Mvoto with Martin Cranie switching to centre back.

Lee Johnson could name an unchanged line up as Sam Winnall looks to net against Sheffield United for the second time this season and Jabo Ibehre aims to score in a third successive match

Interesting Stats:

Barnsley have lost only two of the last 11 home derbies with Sheffield United but have won only one of the last six.

Overall Sheffield United have won MORE Oakwell meetings than Barnsley, 9-10.

Victory tomorrow would give The Reds their first league double over the Blades since the promotion season of 1996-1997. Back then The Reds won 1-0 at Bramall Lane (just like this season) before a 2-0 Oakwell victory.

The Sam Winnall inspired win back in November was only the second time in 11 meetings Barnsley have beaten Sheffield United home or away.

The Reds have kept clean sheets in three of their past four meetings with the Blades.

Sheffield United need two more goals to reach 100 v Barnsley.

Many people are tipping Sheffield United to be the team that crumbles in the run-in and falls out of the play-off places following three defeats in their past six games.

However going into this Easter period they hold a five-point advantage over seventh place.

The Blades have drawn each of their past three matches on the road, and their record of ten draws overall this season is the second most amongst the division’s top nine.

Nigel Clough’s side are in form away from Bramall Lane. Despite losing four of their last six at home, United are unbeaten in their last six on the road and during that spell they became only the second team to win at Bristol City this season.

Home or away though Sheffield United have won only two of their past eight matches, both at home. However they have only played three away matches in that spell, and they have all finished 1-1.

United have scored more than once in only one of their past eight games but it is now 13 matches since they last failed to score at all.

Their total tally of 56 goals this season is the joint lowest in the top seven.

Jose Baxter has scored in three of United’s last four games, bagging four goals in total.

Sheffield United have been awarded three penalties in their last five matches.

STAT! – Barnsley have failed to win any of their last four on this date, losing three.

Sheffield United:

Played: 26 Won: 15 Drawn: 5 Lost: 6 Scored: 44 Conceded: 22.

Last match on the 4th April: 2011. QPR 3-0 Sheffield United. Att: 14,535.

Last win: 2009

Last draw: 2001

Last defeat: 2011

STAT! – Sheffield United are unbeaten in 20 of their 26 matches on this date but have won only one of the last four

JOINT STAT! – Barnsley and Sheffield United meet for the second time on the 4th April. They also met on this date back in 1936 with United claiming the spoils in a 2-0 victory at Bramall Lane in a Second Division clash.

This result was Barnsley’s seventh defeat in nine matches and left them second from bottom of the table. It ended a run of two successive defeats for the Blades to haul them up to third.

Eventually Barnsley would escape relegation buy a single point whilst United would miss out on promotion by three points.

That would prove to be a double blow for the Blades as the four time FA Cup winners were defeated 1-0 by Arsenal in the 1936 final at Wembley. They have not reached an FA Cup final again since.
