Barnsley v Walsall

Team News

Lee Johnson has a couple of niggles to deal with ahead of the visit of Walsall. John O’Sullivan was brought off in the 1-0 win over Coventry to rest his tight hamstring but he is likely to play tomorrow, Johnson claiming it is 70/30 in his favour.

Peter Ramage will again miss out and could be sidelined for another fortnight with a thigh problem but Sam Winnall is now fully fit although unlikely to make his first start since November as George Waring has netted in both of the last two games.

Ben Pearson plays the final game of his initial loan from Manchester United.

Interesting Stats:

Barnsley have won ten of the 10 Oakwell meetings between the two sides with Walsall only travelling back to the West Midlands with the spoils on four occasions.

One of those victories came in the League Cup and the Saddlers have not been victorious in any of their last six visits dating back to 1984.

Barnsley’s last league defeat at home against Walsall was 44 years ago and Barnsley have won all seven Oakwell meetings since that 1-0 defeat in 1971.

Home and away The Reds have only suffered defeat twice in seven clashes and in three of the last 13, but Walsall do lead the head to heads 15 to 14 following their 3-1 success at the Bescot Stadium in December.

Victory for Walsall tomorrow would give them their first ever league double against Barnsley.

These clashes tend to generate goals, in only one of the past 12 has both teams not scored. 45 goals have been scored in that time
