Bids In For Four Players!

Last updated : 26 June 2007 By Rob Miles (barnsley Boy)

Barnsley chairman Gordon Shepherd has today revealed the club have bids in for FOUR more players with Sheffield United veteran Chris Lucketti one of them.

Lucketti was a strong target when Andy Ritchie was in charge of Oakwell but wanted to try and force his way into the Blades Premiership squad.

After United's relegation though Lucketti is prepared to move.

Shepherd also confirmed bids are in for another centre-back, left back and goal-keeper which is bound to heap the pressure on the likes of Paul Heckingbottom, Nick Colgan and David Lucas.

Shepherd told BBC Radio Sheffield:

His (Lucketti's) agent's been to see us twice and Chris has been himself, but he has other options.

"We have bids in for a central defender, a left-back and a keeper."

Meanwhile Reds Boss Simon Davey has revealed his shock at Daniel Nardiello's shock contract U-turn.

Nardiello was on the M1 on his way to Oakwell to sign a new two year deal at 11am before ringing Davey an hour later to say he had turned round and was instead signing for Queens Park Rangers!

Davey told the Sheffield Star:

"This has come out of the blue, we had a deal with him on Friday and he was due at the club at 11am. At 12 we got the call saying he was going to QPR.

"We'd made him a very good offer, beat off Coventry. He looked like he was coming back to us."

Elsewhere at the club, young striker Nathan Joynes who famously scored 4 goals for the Reserves in a 6-4 win over Leeds last season, has signed a new one year deal at Oakwell whilst released Neil Austin could be making a swift return to Oakwell in August after today signing a two year deal with The Reds League Cup opponents Darlington
