Interesting Stats

Barnsley won 5-0 on their last trip to St Andrews Stadium, back in September 2012 but that is their only victory there in the past six visits stretching back to 2000.

Indeed that Craig Davies inspired romp is the Reds only win over Birmingham, home or away in the past seven meetings and Birmingham have won both matches (both at Oakwell) since that game.

Birmingham have hit something of a mini revival. Before they won 3-0 at Oakwell in November – a game that proved to be the end for David Flitcroft- the Blues were fourth from bottom of the Championship. Although now only 17th they are unbeaten in their last nine league games, although five of them have been draws.

Before Sunday’s 3-2 win at Blackburn, Birmingham had gone three matches without conceding a goal.

The Blues have drawn each of their last four home games and they have won just two in front of their own supporters, the joint fewest in the league along with Bolton, Sheffield Wednesday, Yeovil and Barnsley.

Their last victory at home came back on the 1st October when they thumped Millwall 4-0.

Lee Clark’s managerial record against Barnsley:

Record: LWW

As Birmingham manager: Lost 5-0 22/9/12. Won 2-1 26/12/12. Won 3-0 30/11/13.

The Reds will welcome in the New Year bottom of the Championship, just like they did 12 months ago. But when Keith Hill was fired on the 29th December 2012, Barnsley had 21 points (five more than they have now), although they had lost one game more last year, having played two more.

It becomes more painful to write this with every passing week but Barnsley’s record now stands at one win in 11, two 25 matches, and eight in 37!

Today also marks the halfway point of the season. Barnsley’s record of 16 points from 23 matches is their worst since the 1986-87 season they also had 16 points from 23 matches, and had also won just three matches.

Danny Wilson has now won just one of his last 12 matches as Barnsley manager, and he has failed to win any of his first three since returning.

Barnsley are yet to win a game this season if they are not winning at half time.

Last year was the first time Barnsley had lost all three Christmas and New Year fixtures for 60 years. Defeat today will mean they have done it two years in a row.
