Barnsley have moved to cover for the impending loss of John O’Sullivan by signing Ipswich Town winger Cameron Stewart on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 23 year old started his career at Manchester United but has spent most of his footballing life out on loan.

He has had short term spells at Yeovil, Hull, Burnley, Blackburn, Charlton and Leeds and had a permanent stint with Hull between 2011 and 2014 where he made 37 appearances.

Stewart who has represented England at Under 17, 19 and 20 levels joined Ipswich in the summer of 2014 but has made only four appearances in nearly a year, all in the FA Cup.

Stewart goes straight into Barnsley’s starting line-up for today’s clash with Preston and has an early chance to prove an able replacement for O’Sullivan who returns to Blackburn after this weekend.
