Barnsley go into tonight's contest looking for their 2nd win in five attempts against Ian Holloway's promotion chasers.

The Reds are unbeaten in the last 3 meetings at Oakwell, winning 2 and have lost just 1 of the last 15 encounters at home.

The last time the two teams met at Oakwell, both teams were on similar runs to now and The Reds triumphed 1-0.

Back on 3rd April 2004 Plymouth were running away with the Second Division title (now League One) on the back of an 11 match unbeaten run whereas Barnsley who had promised so much up to Christmas were on an 11 match winless run that had seen them drop from 4th to 11th.

A late Gary Birch header saw The Reds win 1-0 that day but as Plymouth finished the season Champions with 90 points, Barnsley finished a disappointing 12th.

Barnsley side on 3.4.04

Beresford, Austin, Murphy, Kay, Ireland, Hayward, Burns (Nardiello 76), Neil, Shuker, Betsy, Birch (Lumsdon 85).

Subs: Alcock, Handyside, Tonge

Plymouth remained top after that game whilst Barnsley moved up to 10th.

Neil Austin, Antony Kay, Danny Nardiello and Dale Tonge are still at the club.

Early on in the season Barnsley's were beaten 2-0 at Home Park by Plymouth on 27th September 2003.

Barnsley side on 27.9.03

Illic, Crooks, Gallimore, Handy side (Carson 66), Ireland, Betsy, Lumsdon, Austin, Gorre, O'Callaghan (Kay 66), Fallon

Subs: Flinders, Mulligan, Wroe.

Plymouth Argyle romped to the title after the 1-0 defeat at Oakwell winning four of their final six games and they finished 7 points clear of 2nd place Queens Park Rangers.

Barnsley meanwhile won just 2 of their remaining 6 and finished just inside the top half in 12th with 62 points, 11 points off the play-offs.

Plymouth have made a pretty impressive start to the 2006-2007 season since appointing ex QPR manager Ian Holloway in the summer.

With just 3 defeats from their opening 11 games they sit in 5th place with 19 points.

The Pilgrims also come to Oakwell on the back of a 3 match winning run and an away record of 3 wins 1 draw and 1 defeat.

Barnsley meanwhile are on a wretched run of 3 straight league defeats (4 in all competitions) and have dropped to 20th in the Championship.

Plymouth hammered Derby County 3-1 at home on Sunday and could move to 2nd with victory tonight.

Barnsley who suffered that last gasp 2-1 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday could move as high as 15th if they claim only their 2nd home win of the season.

This is the first time the two teams have met at this level since 1992. If Plymouth score tonight they will have notched 100 goals against The Reds.
