Early Reds Team News

Barnsley head into a potential relegation six pointer tomorrow missing at least wingers Jamal Campbell-Ryce and Gary Teale. JCR is still more than a week away from fitness after fracturing his elbow whilst Teale is ineligible to play against parent club Derby. Once again The Reds are hopeful Argentinean midfielder Hugo Colace will have received international clearance to make his long awaited debut whilst Marciano Van Homoet and Iain Hume are both available again after suspension. Despite playing for The Reserves in midweek, goalkeeper Heinz Muller will not feature.

Likely Line-Up:

Marciano Van Homoet

Darren Moore

Dennis Souza

Stephen Foster

Head to Head

Both Barnsley and Derby are absolutely desperate for the three points tomorrow but it is The Reds who have the upper hand at Oakwell, having won three of the last four meetings there.

However The Rams did come out on top on their last visit- a 2-1 win in 2007 in a season in which they were promoted to the Premier League. Altogether Derby have come away from Oakwell victorious on nine occasions. Another stat worth noting is that The Rams have gone 23 games and exactly 17 months since their last league victory on the road… That came at Barnsley. They did beat fellow Championship side Preston away in the Carling Cup on Tuesday.

Barnsley and Derby have met once before on the 30th August- that was in the Premier League at Pride Park which Derby won 1-0.

This Season:

This really is a massive game for both sides! Derby County have now gone an incredible 35 league games without a victory after winning just once in the Premier League last season and failing to register a victory in the Championship this season. They do though have a point after drawing 1-1 at Bristol City but two home defeats to Doncaster and Southampton have intensified the pressure on manager Paul Jewell who is yet to win a league game since taking over at Pride Park.

One crumb of comfort for the Rams is that on Tuesday they progressed into the Third Round of the League Cup by defeating Preston 1-0 at Deepdale. It proves they can win on the road!

Barnsley are also in desperate need of points. Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Birmingham left The Reds rooted to the bottom of the league and the only side in the Championship yet to register even a point. Defeats to QPR, Coventry, Birmingham and Crewe in the Carling Cup have heaped pressure on Simon Davey.

At least one record will go tomorrow- either Derby will win or Barnsley will get their first point. It is well worth noting Derby have only scored once in the league this season but Barnsley have conceded twice in every game so far.
