Team News

Barnsley boss Simon Davey is set to go for an unchanged line-up for tonight's long trip to Portman Road. Brian Howard has played his last game for the club so Hugo Colace and Anderson De Silva should be allowed to continue their promising midfield partnership.

The only change that could happen is fit again Maceo Rigters may replace confidence-hit Jon Macken up-front but with the Dutch international only just recovered from an hamstring injury, he likely to be on the bench. Youngsters Jamil Adam and Reuben Lazarus have travelled with the squad and may make the bench.

Likely Line-Up:

Heinz Muller

Rob Kozluk

Darren Moore

Dennis Souza

Stephen Foster

Jamal Campbell-Ryce

Hugo Colace

Anderson De Silva

Diego Leon

Iain Hume

Jon Macken

Head to Head

Portman Road is certainly not a happy ground for Barnsley as The Reds have just once there in the last 12 visits and only twice overall! And they have suffered some heavy defeats there recently- 5-1 in 2007 and 6-1 in 2000.

The only successes for Barnsley at Ipswich came via a 2-0 win in December 1998 and by the same scoreline in the League Cup in October 1960.

One grain of hope though is that the last time Barnsley headed to Suffolk they produced a fantastic defensive performance (last season) to earn a 0-0 draw. It was a result which ended Ipswich's run of 12 successive home wins in the Championship, stretching from March 2007 to December 2007.

Barnsley then followed up that draw by hammering Ipswich 4-1 at Oakwell; just three days after the famous FA Cup win over Chelsea.

Barnsley had three heart-breaking battles with Ipswich in the 1999-2000 season where the Tractor Boys defeated The Reds 6-1 at Portman Road and 2-0 at Oakwell before beating them 4-2 at Wembley in the Division One Play-Off Final. Since that day Barnsley have never been even remotely as close to regaining Premier League status.

This Season:

Ipswich Town, who last season missed out on a Play-Off spot by just one point have made a solid if unspectacular start to the 2008-2009 season winning two and losing three of their eight games so far. In complete contrast to last season it is their away form which is better than their home record. The Tractor Boys have won just once at home, losing twice whilst although they have also only won once on the road, only Watford have defeated them away from Portman Road. Ipswich's solitary home success came against Reading on the 13th of September whilst they were humbled 4-1 by Wigan in the Carling Cup and Wolves and Preston have been able to depart Suffolk with three points.

Nobody though will be trembling about Barnsley's away record. Since arriving back in the Championship in 2006, The Reds have recorded just nine victories out of 50 on the road and claimed a miserly 35 points out of a possible 150 away from Oakwell. They are yet to win on the road this season and have drawn one and lost three out of their four away trips so far whilst also being humbled 2-0 at League One Crewe in the Carling Cup. The Reds are also on a run of four games without a goal home or away.
