Team News

Well here we are, 96 days after a 2-1 win down at Plymouth secured Championship football for another year, the new season is here and starts off with a mouth-watering South Yorkshire derby over a Sheffield Wednesday side who The Reds recorded a double over last season for the first time in 76 years. Reds boss Simon Davey has had trouble making new signings this summer which means there is likely to be no new additions in the starting line-up at Hillsborough. The two new recruits that have arrived- Onome Sodje and David Preece- are likely to be on the bench at best, and they could be joined by striker Iain Hume. He will be like a new signing after being sidelined since November. Hugo Colace looks 99% certain to miss out whilst his fellow central midfielder Anderson De Silva is struggling. De Silva should make it though and is likely to be partnered by Jacob Butterfield who has excelled in pre-season. It would be only the 19 year old's second professional start. Upfront, Davey also has a conundrum. Kayode Odejayi has been in fine form during the summer plundering five goals in nine games, but Daniel Bogdanovic showed his class with a fine strike against Manchester City. Both are deemed too similar to start together and its expected Odejayi will get the nod, probably alongside Jon Macken.

Likely Line-Up:

Luke Steele

Rob Kozluk

Stephen Foster

Darren Moore

Bobby Hassell

Martin Devaney

Anderson De Silva

Jacob Butterfield

Jamal Campbell-Ryce

Kayode Odejayi

Jon Macken

Head to Head

Barnsley have a horrible record at Hillsborough and last season's 1-0 success ended a run of 11 straight defeats at S6. The 2-1 Oakwell win was the first home or away against the Owls in 10 meetings. In 33 visits to Hillsborough Barnsley have pocketed all three points just seven times whilst the Owls have notched 22 wins. The Owls though have only won eight times at Oakwell in 30 trips! Despite the poor record, these matches are usually tight affairs. There hasn't been more than three goals in a Barnsley - Wednesday match since October 2001 (a run of 12 meetings)
