Early Reds Team News

Simon Davey has doubts over Rob Kozluk and Dominik Werling who both picked up knocks on Monday. Davey says Werling is 50-50 but is hopeful both will recover.

Lewin Nyatanga, Paul Reid and Andy Johnson could all return to the squad after being rested for Saturday's win over Scunthorpe whilst Marciano Van Homoet will hope he has done enough to travel to the Britannia Stadium

Probable Line-Up:

Heinz Muller

Rob Kozluk

Stephen Foster

Dennis Souza

Dominik Werling

Andy Johnson

Brian Howard

Jamal Campbell-Ryce

Istvan Ferenczi

Kayode Odejayi

Barnsley's visit to the Britannia Stadium last season earned them Performance of the Week after a fine defensive display saw The Reds come away with a 1-0 victory courtesy of a great Istvan Ferenczi strike to earn 3 vital relegation points in front of the SKY cameras.

That was Barnsley's first win at Stoke in seven attempts.

Stoke 0-1 Barnsley Report Monday 26th February 2007

The Reds home form against the Potteries is tremendously better!

Last seasons 2-2 draw at Oakwell ended a run of NINE successive wins over Stoke at home!

Barnsley were 2-0 behind last season to goals from Clint Hill and Luke Chadwick in the first half but two goals in two minutes from Tommy Wright and Paul Hayes within the last 17 minutes earned Andy Ritchie's men a share of the spoils.

BARNSLEY: Colgan, Hassell, Reid, Togwell, Hayes, McIndoe, Howard (Healy 81), Tonge, Williams, Richards (Wright 68), Devaney.

Subs: Mannone, Heckingbottom, McParland.

STOKE CITY: Simonsen, Duberry, Hill, Brammer, Sidibe, Sweeney (Harper 68), Higginbotham, Pericard, Russell, Chadwick (Whitley 68), Griffin.

Subs: Hoefkens, Pulis, Rooney.

This Season

Stoke - heavily tipped for the play-offs this term after a near miss last season have made a good start to achieving those predictions.

Unbeaten at home they lie 7th and have picked up fine victories over fellow promotion hopefuls Cardiff and Charlton whilst earning draws against Wolves and Hull. The solitary defeat came at the hands of Southampton in a narrow 3-2 reverse.

Barnsley's 2-0 win over Scunthorpe at the weekend lifted them from 21st to 14th in the league and a win at the Britannia would lift them above Stoke in the table.

To do this though, horrid away form will have to be addressed. The last away success was the fine 3-1 victory at Southend on the 14th April and in the 4 away games since have lost three of them.

Stoke are unbeaten at home in 7 games, the last time they were defeated in front of their home fans was… yep you guessed it the 1-0 defeat to Barnsley!
