Head to Head

Despite the desperation Barnsley fans have to beat Sheffield Wednesday, it is now eight years and nine meetings since victory over the side from S6.

The last success came at Oakwell back in December 2001 when Chris Morgan and a brace from Mike Sheron sealed a 3-0 win in front of the SKY cameras. Its been very bleak since then with six defeats and three draws from the nine since. The record at Hillsborough is even bleaker with Barnsley having come back from the Pigs Den defeated in each of the last 11 visits (excluding penalty shootouts) but the record at Oakwell isn't that bad. Wednesday have only won eight times in 29 visits and have only emerged victorious once in the last eight visits, but that one victory was a thumping 3-0 in 2006 when Simon Davey was appointed manager on a permanent basis immediately after!

This Season:

Sheffield Wednesday are on the crest of a wave at the moment as they lie 5th in the Championship and are above their hated rivals Sheffield United who they beat 1-0 yesterday to further boost confidence. It is their home form that is keeping them there however. Still unbeaten at Hillsborough, the Owls have won just once away from home this season and have shipped 18 goals on their travels. Their one away success came at Charlton where they triumphed 2-1 at the end of September but they have also been thumped 4-1 at Wolves, 6-0 at Reading and 4-0 at Plymouth.

Barnsley fans would settle for a 1-0 tomorrow and with just one goal and one point on the road it's a good job tomorrow's game is at Oakwell where Barnsley are unbeaten in two games and beat another South Yorkshire side- Doncaster 4-1 there last time out.
