Head To Head

Like at many away games Barnsley's record at Ashton Gate is none to clever. A win tomorrow would be their first in 8 attempts. The last success came back on the 16th October 1993. A 2-0 success was gained that day through goals from Ian Bryson and Barnsley legend Neil Redfearn.

The last time the two sides met at Ashton Gate, was in the promotion season of 2005-2006 in League One when Bristol City crushed Barnsley 3-0 on 27th September 2005. Steve Brooker and Marcus Stewart (2) bagging the goals. Barnsley were 14th after that game, Bristol City 19th.

A stunning second half display with goals from Brian Howard, Dennis Souza and Martin Devaney on 2nd October 2007 ended City's unbeaten start to the season and moved The Reds to the heady heights of 4th in the Championship.

This Season

Bristol City are having by far the best season out of the three sides promoted to the Championship in May. Whilst fellow new-comers Scunthorpe and Blackpool fight a relegation battle, City sit handsomely in 3rd place in the Coca Cola Championship, just three points off leaders West Brom.

The start they had has helped them enormously. The Robins were undefeated in their first eight games before that 3-0 defeat at Oakwell and have lost just three of the 13 games since.

Bristol City are also unbeaten in their last five games and have won their last two at home, the most recent being last weekend when a Marvin Elliott goal earned them a 1-0 success over Cardiff City.

Bristol C: Basso (Weale ,66 ) ,Orr ,Carey ,McCombe ,Fontaine ,Sproule ,Johnson ,Elliott ,McIndoe ,Trundle (Noble ,82 ) ,Showunmi
Subs not used: Skuse,McAllister,Byfield,

Barnsley meanwhile would kill for an away goal never mind a point. The Reds are goalless away from Oakwell since Kim Christensen's last minute equaliser earned a draw at Charlton way back on 6th October- a run of six games which have yielded just one point. The overall away record is one of the worst in the division, only winless Ipswich, Norwich and Preston, both scrapping at the bottom have worst. Just six goals have been scored on the road which is the worst in the Championship.

Home form is the opposite however, only, ironically Ipswich are better at home and The Reds Oakwell form is the same as league leaders West Brom's record at the Hawthorns. If only some of that Oakwell magic could be sprinkled on Ashton Gate tomorrow…
