Barnsley saviour and current owner Patrick Cryne could be set to sell the club after his health has deteriorated in recent months.

The multi-millionaire and lifelong Reds fan saved the club from administration and almost oblivion when he bought out Peter Ridsdale in 2004, and, with his considerable backing the club have managed to stay afloat and enjoyed some heady times, including promotion in 2006 and an FA Cup Semi-Final in 2008.

However Cryne has been increasingly absent from Oakwell on matchdays recently and has a tax evasion court case pending this summer. This has led the former isoft owner to consider ending his seven year reign,

Chief director Don Rowing told the Sheffield Star:

“He’s been considering his decision,”

“Patrick’s got health issues and we’ve been in regular contact about what he’s going to do.

“But at this time we just want to give him time and space to let him decide what he wants to do.
