Barnsley boss Simon Davey has admitted for the first time he feared the sack as The Reds teetered on the brink of Championship relegation.

Davey told the Barnsley Chronicle that he feared the sack after the dreadful 3-1 home defeat to Swansea but was backed by owner Patrick Cryne.

Davey explained how he was sat in his office alone and when Cryne walked in he asked him if he (Davey) was the only person in the stadium who believed the club would stay up, to which Cryne replied "No, but there's only two of us."

Davey also admitted mistakes had been made but hoped for the chance to build for next season.
