Former Barnsley boss Simon Davey has stunned Darlington chairman Raj Singh by resigning from the recently relegated club just three months into his tenure, and via email!

The Welshman who, Reds fans begged to quit for two and half years at Oakwell, before he was finally pushed, has been linked with the vacant managerial post at Hereford United but Singh said:

"I can confirm that we've had no contact whatsoever from Hereford, or any other club, regarding his contractual situation here.

"It's very disappointing to say the least,"

"We gave Simon everything that he'd asked for, as we did with the previous two managers.

"We were as shell-shocked as anyone to receive this news and it does come as a big blow to us."

"We tried contacting Simon on several occasions.

"Unfortunately we've now had official confirmation from him in writing that he wishes to leave.

"It's very frustrating that we've not been able to speak directly to Simon about this so that he could explain to us exactly why he's made this decision.

"He has very briefly cited personal reasons and insists that it's nothing personal or detrimental about me or the club."
